1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
I think my ability to work in a creative partnership has improved a lot. I'm less scared to make decisions because I was always sort of worried about offending the other person... luckily working with one of your friends makes this wierdly easier, as Gemma was a good person to work with. I also think my illustrator skills have improved a bit too... it's my favourite programme in the world and so I use it quite a lot anyway... but the amount of work we had to do on it might have improved my 1 skill a bit. Further to this I did a bit of logo design... they weren't the most complex designs in the world but I braved a bit of typography which is unlike me and I feel better for it.
2. What approaches to generating work and solutions to problems have you developed and how have they helped?
I think this time I paid a lot more attention to my research which helped enormously. Me and Gemma made a questionnaire which to be honest wasn't all that helpful... the replies we got back were all quite vague as though the guys that filled them in were just adamant they weren't going to be buying tissues. I think also we weren't afraid to make mock-ups... usually I lose patience with doing mock up after mock-up, but this time I really HAD to because the nets were quite complicated (for me). Paying a lot of attention in crits really helped, and basing our ideas around what we learnt really helped our project along.
3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
I think my illustrator skills are a good strength. I'm not scared of illustrator, unlike most programmes and I'm quite confident in using it. So I think the illustration side of it worked quite well. Also, coming up with a suitable tagline took forever. We knew we wanted to use the twisting box idea relatively early on because it was the gimmicky type of product guys seem to go for and knew we could make it amusing... so we were quite proud when we eventually came up with "sick 'n twisted", so I think that was quite good, as well as calling them "chiefs"... so I suppose use of language was another strength. Again, I think really centering our ideas around research and crits was a main strength
4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how could you exploit these more fully?
I think possibly not wanting to let go of some of the characters we'd made hindered us slightly. When we changed the box shape from a cube to a cylinder, we could fit 6 figures on it rather than 4... we had 8 characters per cube box so we had a choice... we could either lose 4 characters for each, or make another four to make a second cylinder box... we chose the latter which caused problems with our time management. This had an effect on our time to produce poster and pocket pack designs... I'd liked to have developed them more thoroughly
5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1. I will try not to be precious over losing elements of my work... like not using certain images I've produced etc
2. Try to use existing nets where possible as this took a long long time and I'm not sure it was justified...
3 Draw out my ideas more before starting to produce imagery etc for something... I'm not sure what happened with that this time.
4. Don't exhaust/stress myself trying to do something... it turns out badly when I do
5. Spend a bit less time on research and more time on developing
6. How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
Attendance - 3
Punctuality - 4
Motivation - 4
Commitment -4
Quantity Of Work Produced - 4
Quality Of Work Produced - 4
Contribution To The Group - 4

The Problem with George Micheal's Beard...

The problem is... he has stubble... which is designer... and stupidly hard to draw in illustrator. But I think we got it sussed in the end...
Also while reworking Gemma's David Hasselhoff face so that it looked more similar to the other faces, I was struggling to find the same picture of him again on t'internet... while looking however... I found this poseable hasselhoff cutout... I love it too much :D
